Leech therapy

Leech therapy

What are leeches? Leeches have been on our planet for 450 million years and have been used as a medical therapeutic for around 3000 years. Due to the more than 30 different ingredients in the saliva of the gel, which it secretes during biting on the animal, there are various indications for its use and can therefore be used in a variety of ways. His secret lies in his saliva secretion and is his "secret weapon". How do leeches work? The many different substances in the saliva secretion have a great effect, which can develop through leech treatment as follows: anticoagulant and vasodilator effects, which can support the flow properties of the lymph, blood and blood flow acceleration, as well as anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects and many others. How are leeches used? The leeches are placed on the animal on the area to be treated. A lot of time must be planned for the treatment, since the process must not be interrupted after the bite of the gel. A leech sucks between 45 minutes and up to two hours (it can also take longer). Bleeding is desirable and can be up to 36! Take hours. Quiet movement of the animal is allowed after treatment, major activities should be avoided one to two days after treatment. Possible indication - osteoarthritis - nerve inflammation - bad wound healing / abscesses - hardened scars - hematoma - spondylosis - cauda eqina (nerve crushing in the lumbar region) - lumbago / crossover - intervertebral disc herniation - laminitis - hoof roll inflammation - meekle - latex and skin plating in the horse - hips Tendon problems - and much more Before each leech therapy, a thorough examination is carried out and the leaflet on leech therapy is signed. Since leech treatment is not an option for every animal, I will give you comprehensive advice beforehand.
